Dellis Frank

Dellis Frank is currently a full-time artist. Her passion is visual art and Arts Education, specifically fiber sculptures. Previously she taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District where she was a staunch advocate for Arts Education. Dellis participated in advocating for and the writing of the Media Arts curriculum and standards that was eventually separated from the Visual arts standards as a stand-alone discipline.

Much of Dellis’ current work centers around social justice issues that are impacting the nation in these times. Her passion for speaking up about the disparities she sees in communities of color is evident in her work. She does so with an environmental slant. Repurposing items that were headed for the landfill is the foundation of her practice. She has coined the phrase The Greening of Fine Art to capture the essence of her practice.

Artist Statement

As an artist, I am fortunate to have children and grandchildren who inspire and participate in my creative process. In my Black Hair series, I used my loved ones as models, celebrating the diversity and beauty of Black hair. It thrills me to know that their images will outlive me, carrying forward this message of diversity and cultural richness. Through their faces and heads, I aim to honor the legacy and vibrancy of Black hair, connecting past, present, and future generations.
