Lauren Over

Lauren grew up somewhere between the city and farmlands of York, Pennsylvania. Her family is a tree of artists, mechanics, designers, gardeners and builders. Her earliest loves were books from her local library and parents' shelves, and studying the tiny plants and creatures in the great outdoors.

Though drawn to Psychology and counseling from high school days, she was equally enamored with art history, graphic design and illustration. Following her heart, a sense of play, and the value of the arts to humanity instilled in her by an art teacher mentor, she enrolled in art school. She completed a BFA in Drawing/Painting from Tyler School of Art (Temple University) in Philadelphia, PA.

After college, Lauren became drawn to the world of Art Education through volunteering. She explored teaching in libraries, non-profits and schools, before completing an MFA in Studio Art at California State University, Los Angeles. Here she branched out to study photographic processes, found object sculpture, ceramics and installation. Recently, she's experimenting with self-publishing, book & card deck formats.

OVER COCKTAILS!

Artist Statement

I see art as a means of accessing and expressing deeper layers of the heart and mind. It can be a research method and an educational tool. Nature and holistic health, metaphysics and mythology, hand-lettering, and man-made machines/structures are recurring subjects in my imagery. I think of my process as a dialogue between the land and the stars, examining the place of the human mind and spirit somewhere in between.
