Kim Farbota

.Kim Farbota (b. 1988, Chicago) is a painter, sculptor, and mixed media artist. She earned her Ph.D. in neuroscience at the age of 24, went on to attend Yale Law School, and spent seven years practicing as an environmental attorney.  Her transition to painting was catalyzed by a realization that the methodical, scientific lens was insufficient to capture the profound interconnectivity that exists between the workings of the physical universe and the subjective human experience. Today Dr. Farbota is a full-time creative residing in Santa Monica, California where she is the 2024 Artist in Residence at Dorado 806 Projects.

Artist Statement

My new series, Folk Ontologies, takes a critical look at the way we non-religious folks put faith in scientific explanations of the universe, while also aspiring to make the state of cosmological understanding more accessible. To this end, this set of paintings and sculptures draws parallels between concepts in astrophysics and archetypal events in an individual human life.
