ARTIST STATEMENT
Christina Justiz Roush is a visual artist specializing in sculptural ceremonial objects. A native of New York, she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with concentrations in visual arts and religious philosophy. Her work, influenced by astrology, tarot, and religious iconography, uses vibrant colors and intricate patterns to explore archetypal symbols and their transformative power in everyday life.
Christina often incorporates natural and biodegradable materials, such as rainwater, spiderwebs, snake skin, and other organic elements, into her sculptures made from plaster, wood, and handmade paper. The materials and energies of the natural world imbue the sculptures with the latent archetypal forces present within the original subject. This transference allows the energies of the encompassed materials to guide her hands as an artist. She believes the intention of the objects that surround us can and will transform us and sees sculpture as a powerful medium for this transformation.
