ARTIST STATEMENT
A silent observer. Ripples create a gentle interference pattern, as seen in a calm pond. Undulating concentric circles take in both the tranquility and disturbances of the world with unwavering patience. This face serves as a silent witness within Vigil, an exhibition dedicated to holding space for pivotal human events while recognizing the continuous, unaffected rhythm of nature.
The ripple patterns imply both calm and collision, reflecting how subtle forces in nature overlap, creating complexity without losing balance. The face, an unglazed earthen porcelain, becomes a metaphor for nature’s clarity, endurance and constancy, standing as an unbothered witness to humanity’s ebbs and flows. As viewers engage with the piece, they are invited into a shared space of contemplation—a moment to pause, to see the world through the lens of nature’s unhurried perspective, and to find solace in its quiet, undisturbed presence. This work reminds us that, even amidst life’s turbulence, nature maintains its own vigil, calmly witnessing, evolving, and holding space for everything that unfolds.
