“Les Poisons”

"Les Poisons" plays on the French word "les poissons," highlighting how everyday items like plastic nets become silent killers in the ocean. The piece urges us to reflect on how the fish carry the remnants of our pollution, revealing the unsettling truth that what we take from the sea is tainted by what we've discarded into it.

mixed media installation with individually painted fish on raw canvas and foraged plastic waste, driftwood, and sand.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Inspired by the beauty of Paros Island during my residency in Greece. My artwork, featuring a series of individually painted fish hung in the traditional way used to dry fish, is a tribute to both the fishermen of Paros and my childhood memories. This display honors the fishermen who once filled these island shores and also reflects my experiences as a child, searching for the perfect fish at the market. By combining these elements, the artwork preserves and celebrates both the fading traditions of the Paros fishermen and the rekindled memories of my youth.
