I create mixed media work with old books on hand-made panels of wood reclaimed from stage productions I have appeared in. I love the texture and patina of old pages. The first time I tore the pages from a book, it felt like a sacrilege, but I've come to realize that destruction can engender creation and rebirth. For me, they are a tactile reminder of where we come from. They connect us to our history.

These ocean works are my response to our industrial interface with the southern California coastline. I open water swim frequently near my home and the natural beauty is calm and peaceful; but when I see the roadway along the strands, the buildings, and the culverts emptying into our lagoons, I often ask myself "What am I swimming in? Where has this water been?
