ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been surfing and sailing for as long as I remember. Growing up in Southern California, the beach was my second home, the surf my playground, and the sand a warm bed after charging waves all day. My bliss has always been the sea and no natural element is referenced or explored more in my work than water, in particular, the Ocean.

Upon announcement of the new Forage show, I returned to a series of work exploring ancient legends and stories of the open sea and histories of those that sailed upon it, and new paintings emerged from these familiar depths.
Simultaneously a new series inspired by The Great Barrier Reef began, particularly the colorful symbiotic coexistence of its biodiversity.

Acknowledging the criteria for this show, I specifically foraged through old work and materials, recycling repurposing and reusing discarded and forgotten canvases - giving life to new paintings which I'm excited to share with you here.
