ARTIST STATEMENT
"This series is a study for my ORIGIN collection, which will be cast in bronze. It explores the cosmology of the Eelm character, a figure I developed during my work on the Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii. Each piece is created in a sandbox with imprints of found objects—roots, seeds, and seashells—making every cast unique. The sand is reshuffled for each new cast, and these studies are crafted in plaster."
Hawaii-based French artist Pierre Fichefeux roots his work in philosophy and cosmology, seeking order in the chaotic forces of nature. His art includes a variety of mediums, from painting, print and sculpture to interactive or site-specific installations. Pier’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Europe, Asia and the US.
